Source of inspiration

Research and technology organisations (incl. universities)

The source of the Wild Card is

(max. 9 words)

Graphene-like silicon

(approx. 150 words)
Please describe the Wild Card (approx. 150 words)
The structure of recently discovered graphene has some amazing properties. As some other analogs of carbon structures, silicon-based could posses more features because of its higher purity and well-based porcesing technology.

Graphene, Silicon

(max. 250 characters)

Silicon like graphene will be extraodrinary material for semiconductors.

Closest timeframe for at least 50% likelihood
Please use one of the following options:

Features of life if the wild card manifests

Feature 1: business models and industrial environment
Industrial application will lead to incredibly expansion of information technologies, which could proceed to a very high incorporation of artificially intelligence in our lifes, much higher than up to now.
Feature 2: education and research environment
Education will be in much more interactive form, the research will be accelerated by a massive computional support.
Feature 3: consumers, markets and lifestyles
Lifestyle will be affected by increasing amount of applied electronics.
Feature 4: technology and infrastructure
Technology will hold the main role in the society. The infrastructure could be untouched by this revolution.
Feature 5: politics and global affairs
This area is completely irrelevant.
Feature 6: health and quality of life
Quality of life will increase, but a certain amount of population will be affraid of the possible cause made by exchange of our own thinking with artificial.
Feature 7: security and defence
All developed countries will use the new progressive technology, so the threats between each other will stay on normal level.

Type of event

Human planned (e.g. terrorist attack or funded scientific breakthrough)

Type of emergence

please select (if any) describe related trend or situation
A new development/situation
(e.g. a Romani state is established in central Europe; A message from an alien civilisation existing on a distant planet is received and understood, etc.

Type of systems affected

Human-built Systems - E.g. organisations, processes, technologies, etc.

please specify:

Level 4: important for the whole world

Early indicators

(including weak signals)

There is only one step between graphene and graphene-like silicon. We cannot observe anything between those two phases.

Latent phase

Obstacles for early indentification

scientific filters (knowledge/technology access)

Manifestation phase

Type of manifestation

In a probably pervasive way (contagious or transmittable)

Aftermath phase

Important implications
Emergence of a new system (e.g. new technologies, new paradigms)
Transformation of a system (e.g. new applications, change in stakeholders relations/influence)

The society will be under a flood of electronics, which could make the living more comfortable.
